Show “Flamenco-Jazz”

On May 10 at 9:00 PM, the Festival Flamenco Nómada presents the world premiere of the new project by guitarist Josemi Carmona, one of the most important figures in Spanish music. In this exclusive performance at the Auditorium Ansermet of the École de Musiques Actuelles, Carmona will be accompanied by prominent musicians from the Spanish flamenco and jazz scenes, taking the audience on a unique journey through his finest compositions, in a concert filled with improvisation and fusion, where flamenco and jazz meet in an exceptional way.

This event will also feature Karime Amaya, one of the leading figures of contemporary flamenco dance, who will bring her art and passion to the stage, creating a vibrant and unique atmosphere.

This world premiere promises to be one of the most anticipated moments of the festival, offering the audience an unparalleled musical and visual experience, marked by the virtuosity of the musicians and the emotion of the purest flamenco combined with the freedom of jazz.

  • Flamenco Nómada - Artistas - Karime Amaya

    Karime Amaya, flamenco dancer born in Mexico, is the grandniece of the legendary dancer Carmen Amaya. She made her debut at nine years old with her parents, dancer Mercedes Amaya “La Winy” and guitarist Santiago Aguilar.
    She won the Revelation Award at the Jerez Festival and starred in the documentary “Bajarí”, nominated for Gaudí and Goya awards. Karime has performed at major festivals worldwide, including Mont-de-Marsan, Jerez, and Albuquerque.

    She has collaborated with renowned flamenco artists like Antonio Canales, Juan de Juan, and Farruquito. In 2012, she premiered her show “Desde la Orilla” at the Jerez Festival and has since performed in Europe and Japan. Karime has also graced prestigious tablaos such as Casa Patas, Las Carboneras, and Gitanerías in Mexico.

    Today, she continues to tour internationally, showcasing her powerful flamenco dance.

    Rafita de Madrid is a flamenco singer from a family of artists, including figures such as Rafael Farina, Diego “El Cigala,” José Peñagrande, and Pedro Jiménez “El Pili.” From an early age, he developed a deep passion for music, and in 1997, he began performing in the main flamenco tablaos of Madrid.

    Throughout his career, he has shared the stage with artists such as Diego “El Cigala,” Javier Limón, and Concha Buika, and has created his own shows, accompanied by Juan José Suarez “Paquete” and Los Porrina. He has participated in the show “Misa Flamenca” by Tito Losada’s company, the tour “Mi Soledad” by Joaquín Cortés’ company, and was an invited artist with the Spanish National Ballet in the show “Leyenda.”

    He has collaborated on albums such as “Picasso en mis ojos” by Diego “El Cigala” and “El Son del Limón” by Javier Limón. Recently, he released his debut solo album, which combines flamenco tradition with a modern approach to singing, featuring collaborations with artists like Diego “El Cigala,” “El Piraña,” Juan José Suarez “Paquete,” Manuel Parrilla, Diego del Morao, Camarón de Pitita, and Sergio Dalma.

    Josemi Carmona, is a multifaceted musician and a key figure in the fusion of flamenco with world music. Son of the master Pepe Habichuela, he began his career at an early age, standing out for the delicacy of his melodies and his fusion with jazz, salsa, bossa nova, and even mandinga music.

    At 14, he joined Ketama, a group that became a cornerstone of flamenco fusion, praised by both critics and audiences.After 20 years with Ketama, Josemi Carmona sought his essence as a solo guitarist. He recorded “Sumando” with Carles Benavent, “Hands” with Pepe Habichuela and Dave Holland, and later released “Las Pequeñas Cosas,” nominated for the 2011 Latin Grammy for “Best Flamenco Album.” In 2016, along with Javier Colina and Bandolero, he presented “De Cerca,” followed by “De Cerca en Directo” in 2017. In 2022, he released “VIDA.”

    José Ruiz “Bandolero” is a flamenco percussionist who began his career at a very young age, accompanying prominent flamenco dancers such as Antonio Canales, Joaquín Cortés, Joaquín Grilo, Javier Barón, Manuela Vargas, Merche Esmeralda, Sara Baras, Farru, and José Maya.

    He became part of Joaquín Cortés’ company, touring some of the world’s most famous venues, including Radio City Music Hall (New York), Royal Albert Hall (London), and the Opera House (Sydney). In 2002, together with Ramón Porrinas, he founded “Echegaray”, the first flamenco percussion group, which released the album “Calle Echegaray”.

    Throughout his career, Bandolero has performed with flamenco legends such as Enrique Morente, Tomatito, Vicente Amigo, and Pepe Habichuela. He has also collaborated with musicians blending other styles with flamenco, such as Antonio Serrano, Chano Domínguez, Jorge Pardo, Tino di Geraldo, Larry Coryell, Carles Benavent, Rubem Dantas, Dave Holland, Pat Metheny, La Barbería del Sur, Ketama, and Niña Pastori.

    Enrique Rodríguez “Enriquito”, A trumpeter, composer, and emerging musician in the world of flamenco-jazz, he has made a name for himself as a standout figure in the new generation of flamenco-jazz musicians at just 18 years old, inspired and mentored by flutist Jorge Pardo.

    His natural talent and impressive musical development position him as a leading artist, exploring a unique sonic universe.
    Enriquito has collaborated with prominent artists such as Josemi Carmona, Jorge Pardo, and Javier Colina, skillfully blending elements of jazz and flamenco. Winner of the Best European Musician award from the French Jazz Academy, he has contributed to popular musical ensembles and released several acclaimed albums, with his most recent, “Fuentes y Manantiales”, in 2020.

    Josué Rodríguez “Ronkío”, is a flamenco bassist and producer known for his versatility and talent. The son of flamenco guitarist Luis Rodríguez “Luisillo” and nephew of cantaora Encarna Fernández, he grew up in a musical environment that shaped his training.

    Throughout his career, he has collaborated with renowned artists such as Concha Buika, Ketama, Josémi Carmona, La Negra, and his own project “Labudú”, blending flamenco, jazz, and Latin music. He has toured internationally and performed on prestigious stages like Blue Note and BB King.

    As a producer, he has worked with musicians like Antonio Serrano, Chano Domínguez, and Rubem Dantas, among others. His ability to blend genres and his mastery of the bass have made him one of the leading flamenco bassists in contemporary music.
