Opening Reception for the Balada Flamenca Exhibition by Jean-Louis Duzert
The Flamenco Nómada Festival is delighted to invite you to the opening reception of the photographic exhibition Balada Flamenca by Jean-Louis Duzert.
This event will take place on Saturday, 5 April, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, in the cultural hall of L’ICAM, located within the welcoming L’Olivier bookstore. To mark this special occasion, wine and tapas will be served.
Jean-Louis Duzert, deeply inspired and moved by the singular art of flamenco, presents a series of unique images that capture the magic and intensity of this world. Over the years, he has immortalized the essence of flamenco’s greatest figures through his lens: Belén Maya, Carmen Ledesma, Paco de Lucía, and the legendary Camarón de la Isla. His photographs, taken in the moment, unveil raw, honest instants – a poised stance, a surge of emotion, a glimpse into the soul.
Immerse yourself in this artistic experience at the heart of our “magical cave”: L’Olivier. The exhibition will run for one month, offering a wonderful opportunity to discover or rediscover these timeless works celebrating flamenco’s splendor.

Juan Gómez "Chicuelo" a flamenco guitarist and composer, he is one of the most influential artists in contemporary flamenco. He has accompanied singers like Miguel Poveda, Duquende, Enrique Morente, Carmen Linares, and Mayte Martin and has collaborated with dancers such as Israel Galván and Antonio Canales. His versatility extends into jazz, working with musicians like Chano Domínguez, Jorge Pardo, Carles Benavent, and Raynald Colom. He is the award-winning author of two solo albums, "Cómplices" and "Diapasión", and is acclaimed for his role as musical director of the musical "Tarantos", which won the Max Award for Best Music. In 2019, he released his third solo album, "Uña y Carne", and a new work with Marco Mezquida titled "No hay dos sin tres". He is currently involved in the project "Caminos", accompanied by three remarkable artists: Karen Lugo, Manel Fortià, and David Gomez.
Manuel Castan is a versatile guitarist who has performed in various musical styles, including Irish, gypsy, Argentine tango, and Latin American folk music, but his main passion has always been flamenco. As a child, he discovered flamenco while listening to a Paco de Lucía record with his Spanish-born mother, sparking a lifelong love for the art. He began studying flamenco guitar with Ricardo Salinas in Avignon, earned a diploma from the Flamenco Conservatory in Barcelona, and received guidance from renowned maestros such as Pedro Sierra, Niño de Pura, Eduardo Rebollar, and Paco Cortés at the Cristina Heeren Flamenco Foundation in Seville. Manuel spent three years in Jerez de la Frontera, Andalusia, where he honed his skills in accompanying flamenco singing and dancing alongside artists like Manuela Carpio, La Rubia de Jerez, La Chiqui, and Ana María López. In 2014, he returned to Geneva and performed in several productions with the companies "La Cueva Flamenca" and "Ensueños" by Rebeca Castilla.
Miguel Calatayud, a flamenco guitarist born in Ciudad Real, he discovered flamenco at the age of 20. His nomadic journey led him to create flamenco-inspired musical projects in various countries, including Greece, England, Morocco, Mexico, and Switzerland. He studied modern jazz at EJMA in Lausanne, Switzerland, before solidifying his career in Seville, where he received two scholarships to train at the prestigious Cristina Heeren Foundation with masters like Paco Cortés and Niño de Pura.
Jesules Losada, a flamenco guitarist born in Madrid began his career at 14 at the tablao Torrebermejas. He trained under David Lamar and collaborated with flamenco greats like singer José Mercé. His professional journey includes European tours with the opera Carmen, where he worked with renowned personalities like José Carreras. In 2015, Jesules released his first solo album "Corre Chacho", establishing himself as both a composer and soloist. He is currently preparing his second album, where his son, who performs at all his events, plays a prominent role.
Guillermo García "El Guille", a flamenco percussionist born in Cartagena, studied solfège and violin and later specialized in flamenco cajón at Madrid’s Centro de Danza Amor de Dios. He has performed as a percussionist at Corral de la Pacheca and collaborated with artists such as Jorge Pardo and Piculabe. García is the founder of the Pellizco del Foro group and the Tokalo and Todocajón festivals. He is currently the official percussion teacher at the Amor De Dios dance school, with over 26 years of teaching experience.
Nasrine Rahmani, a percussionist specializing in flamenco and Latin American percussion, she was born in Australia to a Mauritian mother and an Iranian father. Nasrine began her studies with African, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban percussion. After graduating in Musical Performance from the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, she embarked on the first of four trips to Cuba to further her studies in Latin percussion. Seeking to immerse herself in a culture more aligned with her passion for percussion, she decided to move to Spain, where she ultimately specialized in the flamenco cajón.
Juan Manuel Cortes, musician and percussionist specializing in flamenco culture, is celebrated for his mastery of compás and his distinctive approach to the flamenco repertoire. He has collaborated with renowned artists such as Samuelito, Antoine Boyer, Kiko Ruiz, Lydie Fuerte, Alberto Garcia, Vicente, and Rafael and Paloma Pradal. Deeply rooted in tradition, he is also a refined composer and a dynamic performer, adept at navigating the full spectrum of flamenco with subtlety and precision. In 2020, he produced, directed, and composed the album "À Fleur de Peau" for the Eva Luisa Flamenco Company, creating a rich and intricate percussive and sonic landscape. A passionate teacher, Juan Manuel excels at unraveling the mysteries of flamenco, using sound demonstrations, visual aids, and rhythmic exercises to explain musical forms and guide students through the intricate styles of this art form.
Enrique Rodríguez "Enriquito", A trumpeter, composer, and emerging musician in the world of flamenco-jazz, he has made a name for himself as a standout figure in the new generation of flamenco-jazz musicians at just 18 years old, inspired and mentored by flutist Jorge Pardo. His natural talent and impressive musical development position him as a leading artist, exploring a unique sonic universe. Enriquito has collaborated with prominent artists such as Josemi Carmona, Jorge Pardo, and Javier Colina, skillfully blending elements of jazz and flamenco. Winner of the Best European Musician award from the French Jazz Academy, he has contributed to popular musical ensembles and released several acclaimed albums, with his most recent, "Fuentes y Manantiales", in 2020.
Jorge Pardo, a flutist and composer born in Madrid is a prominent musician in today's scene, renowned for his unique fusion of jazz and flamenco. In 2013, he was named Best European Jazz Musician. Trained at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, Pardo plays the flute and saxophone and has collaborated with legends like Paco de Lucía. Pardo has performed at international festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival and worked with celebrated artists like Chick Corea and Al Di Meola. Winner of Spain’s National Award for Contemporary Music in 2015, his albums like "El Canto de los Guerreros", "Las Cigarras Son Quizá Sordas", "Diez de Paco", and "Vientos Flamencos" showcase his rich artistic journey.
Jean-Louis Duzert, born in Villenave-d’Ornon, discovered his passion for photography at a young age. After completing specialized studies in Orthez, he began his career as an official photographer for the government in Paris before joining the Sud-Ouest newspaper, where he worked as a photojournalist from 1973 to 2010. Passionate about flamenco, Duzert has become a key figure in this art form, serving as the official photographer for the Flamenco Festival at the Théâtre de Nîmes and a permanent guest of the Arte Flamenco Festival in Mont-de-Marsan since its inception in 1989. His work has been exhibited in iconic cities such as Seville, Jerez, Lebrija, Madrid, Mont-de-Marsan, Nîmes, Paris, and Bordeaux, among others. He has also published several books dedicated to flamenco, including Arte Flamenco (Festival de Mont-de-Marsan), Flamenco Flamme (Festival de Nîmes), Prohibido el cante (Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art in Seville), Alborea (journal of the Andalusian Flamenco Agency), and most recently, Balada Flamenca, published by Éditions IN8. With an authentic and passionate perspective, Jean-Louis Duzert has immortalized the essence of flamenco, establishing himself as a global reference in documenting this vibrant art form.
