THE DISAPPEARING ACT

Sometimes, to appear, one must first know how to disappear.

The Flamenco Nómada Festival recommends, as part of the Théâtre de Vidy-Lausanne programme, three exceptional performances of The Disappearing Act.

This work is a political and spiritual inquiry into visibility. Drawing inspiration from Edgar Degas’ famous sculpture, "The Little Fourteen-Year-Old Dancer", Yinka Esi Graves uses the stage to rescue from oblivion the bodies that have long inhabited the margins of history. Through this piece, the artist explores how the act of "disappearing" can become a form of resistance. Yinka unfolds a dance that seeks not only movement but the echo of what has been silenced within the diaspora. It is a dialogue between flamenco tradition and the avant-garde, transforming the stage into a space of revelation.

Note: The performance on Wednesday, 11 February will be followed by a Q&A session with the artistic team, a unique opportunity to discuss the themes of the work.
