Workshops Dance Flamenco

The renowned Mexican flamenco dancer Karen Lugo, a key figure in contemporary flamenco, offers intensive workshops in Geneva. Designed for two levels – intermediate and advanced – these sessions will allow participants to deepen their technique, musicality, and expressiveness through two flamenco styles: Alegrías and Guajiras.

A festive and vibrant style based on a 12-beat rhythmic structure. Ideal for dancers with a solid technical foundation who wish to strengthen their coordination, expressiveness, and understanding of compás.

Content:

  • Footwork technique (clarity, precision, coordination)
  • Body work: posture, arm movement, traveling steps
  • Compás por Alegrías: rhythmic listening and choreographic structure
  • Adapted choreography: musicality and style

Inspired by Cuban music, Guajiras offer a subtle and expressive space for experienced dancers. The fan (abanico) may be incorporated into the choreography.

Content:

  • Advanced footwork: speed and rhythmic complexity
  • In-depth body work: intention, nuance, interpretation
  • Compás por Guajiras: rhythmic structure and musicality
  • Elaborate choreography: finesse and expressiveness (with or without fan)
