Karen Lugo

Karen has made flamenco her vital language since leaving Mexico. Trained in tradition yet guided by a constant creative drive, she has built a career that blends performance, choreography and artistic direction across stages in Europe, the Americas and the Middle East.

She has presented her work at festivals in Jerez, Madrid, Saintes, Jaén and Seville, and collaborated with renowned artists such as Javier Latorre, José Maldonado, Chicuelo, Carles Benavent, among others. Her choreographic approach has earned international awards in Spain, Finland and Barcelona.

In addition to her stage work, she leads projects such as Flamenco Nómada in Geneva and collaborates with companies like Flamenco Vivo in New York. Her method is rooted in research, emotion, and intercultural dialogue.

Karen also explores flamenco through video art, with works selected for festivals such as MUMVI and Agite y Sirva. Today, as a grantee of Mexico’s National System of Art Creators, she continues to expand the boundaries of contemporary flamenco.
