Flamenco Singing Workshop with Anna Colom

Singer Anna Colom, renowned for her deep voice and her career alongside artists such as Rosalía, will lead a 2-hour flamenco singing workshop open to all levels on Saturday 25 April from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

This workshop is aimed at anyone wishing to discover flamenco singing, learn traditional lyrics and understand how the voice interacts with dance. An accessible session to explore cante flamenco, whatever your level.

Workshop Content

Compás (Rhythm)

  • Practical introduction to the fundamental rhythms of flamenco
  • Working on 4-beat and 12-beat compases

Traditional letras (lyrics)

  • Learning letras por tangos
  • Learning letras por fandangos

Structure for flamenco dance

  • How to structure and accompany singing according to the movements and codes of flamenco dance
  • The relationship between singing, dance and guitar
  • Coordination exercises with the guitar

  • Anna Colom was born in Barcelona in 1985. She is a musician, cantaora (flamenco singer), composer and arranger. She holds a degree in Flamenco Singing from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) and trained at the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco in Seville.

    Colom has performed widely on stages including tablaos and theatres in Barcelona, Madrid and across Andalusia. She has also toured in more than ten countries, among them the United States, China, New Zealand, Mexico, Argentina and Switzerland.

    Her project Cayana explores the intersections between flamenco and diverse rhythms and folk traditions from around the world — Brazilian samba, Uruguayan candombe, Mexican fandango, Argentine zamba — offering an inventive and sensitive vision of flamenco singing.

    She has collaborated with a range of artists and projects, and was a backing vocalist on Rosalía’s El Mal Querer tour.
